FAQs

My AC doesn't seem to be working, what is wrong?

There are a number of things that can cause the issue. The most common issues are the thermostat that controls are set to heat and not cool, or the air filter in your unit is dirty.  If neither of these is true, then your unit may be low on refrigerant and needs to be tuned up. Another common reason is the compressor has gone bad and needs to be replaced. The best way to fix this issue and make sure your unit is operating at its best is to have an Ahlers Air licensed technician come out and give your system a tune-up.

I smell mildew near my AC unit, what should I do?

This can be a sign your unit is leaking or the drain is clogged, either of which can cause major issues if they are not addressed. For help on this issue call us and we can go over your best options to get this common problem resolved.

My thermostat won't turn on or has stopped working.

The first thing you want to do is carefully check your fuse box to make sure that your AC unit has power. If the breaker to your unit has not been tripped then you need to check the unit itself. A thermostat not turning on or suddenly not working is generally an indication there is something wrong with your main AC unit. The best way to fix this issue is to have a licensed AC technician come to your home and diagnose what is actually causing the problem and present you with the best options to get the problems fixed.

My AC unit turns on and then quickly turns off repeatedly, or it won't turn off, what could be wrong?

If your thermostat is set correctly and your air filter is clean, then a common cause for this is a low refrigerant level in your unit. Low refrigerant can cause your unit to turn on and then suddenly back off (called short cycling).

How often should my AC unit be serviced?

Many people think that their AC units only need to be looked at when they completely stop working, but like many things, in our lives, our AC units benefit from routine maintenance. For this reason, Ahlers Air has created the AMP Program and will service your unit twice a year for one low annual fee. This routine maintenance will keep your unit running more efficiently and help it last much longer. Learn more about Ahlers Air and our industry-leading AMP program here.
